Helping you when someone dies
If you're managing the estate of someone who had a relationship with us, we're here to help. When finances are involved we know it can be hard to know where to start. Whether the account holder trusted us with their savings, or if they'd borrowed money from us in a personal loan, finance to purchase something or a mortgage, we're here to help.
How to let us know someone has died
We work with the Death Notification Service (DNS) to ease the process. You can use this free service to let us, and any other participating companies, know that someone has died. Please visit the DNS website and submit a death notification. They'll let us know, and we'll check for any accounts held with us across our range of products and update them. We'll then get in touch with you about next steps.
Using the Death Notification Service
Releasing Savings
If we were entrusted with the late account holder's savings, we're committed to ensuring their savings are released to the person(s) they have chosen. In most cases, the account can be transferred or closed. We can also arrange to pay funeral costs directly from the account should this be needed. You don't have to wait for the DNS to let us know. Simply get in touch and we'll let you know what the next steps are.

About the Death Notification Service
Why do you use the Death Notification Service?
We use the Death Notification Service to make it easier for you to tell us someone has died. They'll ask you which participating organisations you want them to inform, and they'll handle much of the administration work for you.
You'll only need to provide one death certificate to them and they'll confirm it for us and any other participating organisations.
Is there a charge to use the Death Notification Service?
No, the service is free for anyone making a notification.
Can I find out more about the Death Notification Service?
You can find out more about the service by visiting www.deathnotificationservice.co.uk.
I've already used the 'Tell Us Once' service, do I need to use the Death Notification Service too?
The 'Tell Us Once' service is a service that lets you report a death to government organisations only. The Death Notification service allows you to tell private sector organisations like Shawbrook of a death.
The Death Notification Service should be used in conjunction with the Tell Us Once service, and they aren't linked.
